San Diego Museum of Art Program

Three times a year, SDSS members perform Shakespearean monologues and sonnets and occasionally works by others at either the San Diego Museum of Art or the Museum of Photographic Arts.

Art Stops

The performances typically take place on Saturday afternoons at 1pm and 2:30pm.

  • Romantic Shakespeare – February, around Valentine’s Day
  • Midsummer Shakespeare – June or July, a Saturday close to the summer solstice
  • Spooky Shakespeare – October in conjunction with Halloween
  • Midsummer Shakespeare at SDMA

    The San Diego Museum of Art and the San Diego Shakespeare Society team up again to celebrate the summer solstice with an enchanted afternoon of performance and poetry! Performances at

    June 21 @ 1:00 pm - 3:00 pm at San Diego Museum of Art

Patricia Elmore Costa and John Tessmer have been co-directing and co-producing the program since past-President Darryl Woodson and the SDMA originated it more than five years ago.

Performers have included: Nathan Agin, Julie Alexandria, Abigail Allwein, William Barstad, Isaac Brieske, Joel Castellaw, Christian Clark, Nicholas Costa, Rob Crisell, Kandace Crystal, Tami Curtice, Ashley Engelman, Laura Ganz-Holtan, Julia Giolzetti, Geoffrey Graeme, Daniel Gurian, Thomas Haine, Joshua Harrell, Steven Jensen, Joy Yvonne Jones, Gabriel Krut, TaiReicka L.A., Sandra Maas, Kevin Manley, Dan Martin, Patrick McBride, Ava Mendoza, Keira Mogavero, Caryn Morgan, Alexis Park, Dorthy Petrich, Mark Petrich, Milena Phillips, Rodriguez, Stephen Simpson, Steve Smith, Gabriela Sosa, Janaki Stoeckley, Maggi Veltre, Martin White, Samuel Young, and the aforementioned Darryl Woodson, well as the San Diego Civic Youth Ballet in June of 2023 and occasionally John Tessmer and Patricia Elmore Costa themselves.
