Be part of the SDSS Team!
Apply by November 21, 2021.
Since its founding, the Society has prided itself on offering its membership and the general public learned presentations on a wide range of topics related to the Shakespearean canon, often from highly respected academics. While we have addressed common subjects of interest, such as language or acting methods, we do not avoid controversy. Most prominently, the authorship question has been broached several times. Further, our speakers have looked at Shakespeare from the perspective of gender and ethnic studies.
The Lectures Coordinator will have reasonable discretion is choosing subjects and speakers.
Tasks will include:
- Arrange a schedule for the year
- Contact likely speakers and coordinate details
- Reserve space for in-person speakers
- Any setup and clean up needed for in-person events
- Act as “host” to welcome and introduce speakers, both for in-person events and via Zoom for out-of-town speakers
- Coordinate publicity with the marketing/social media function of the Society
We strive to offer up to four lectures or panel discussions each calendar year. Typically, the lectures are offered on weekends during the afternoon. (From experience, we have learned that lectures on Sundays are better attended than lectures on Saturdays.) For those lectures offered in person, we have reserved space at the Mission Valley Library, though other venues can be considered, including our existing relationship with the Coronado Library.
So that the selected individual can hit the ground running in 2022, we already have a speaker lined up for January, and a tentative one for March.
While these are volunteer and unpaid positions, you’ll be part of the Society Team, bringing Shakespeare to life in San Diego!
The Lecture Coordinator must either be a current SDSS member or be willing to join.
If interested, please fill out the form below by November 21st. Thank you!
