He thinks that she is dead. Everyone thinks that she is her brother. Everyone thinks that her brother is her. Shenanigans ensue. \n—- \nA bit more about the play: Viola\, separated from her twin Sebastian\, dresses as a boy and works for the Duke Orsino\, whom she falls in love with. Orsino is in love with the Countess Olivia\, and sends Viola to court her for him\, but Olivia falls for Viola instead. Sebastian arrives\, causing a flood of mistaken identity\, and marries Olivia. Viola then reveals she is a girl and marries Orsino. \nPatrick McBride has directed\, acted and taught for over 25 years. He is a Teaching Artist with Young Audiences of San Diego\, Playwrights Project\, and CoTA. He has a B.F.A in Directing from the University of North Carolina School of the Arts. He’s played roles as diverse as Laurence in Dirty Rotten Scoundrels\, Bullshot in Bullshot Crummond\, Fagin in Oliver\, Benidick in Much Ado About Nothing\, Billy in Anything Goes\, and James Joyce in Travesties. Numerous professional credits at The Old Globe\, La Jolla Playhouse\, PCPA Theaterfest\, Cygnet\, Intrepid\, and North Coast Rep. Other regional and local credits include Assistant Director on Broadway for The School for Scandal (with Tony Randall\,) The Shakespeare Theatre in DC\, Great Lakes Theatre Festival in Cleveland\, San Diego Jr. Theatre\, Moonlight\, Diversionary\, as well as Shakespeare Festivals in Lake Tahoe\, San Luis Obispo and Atlanta. \n—- \nFAQ \nQ: Do I have to read? \nA: You are welcome to show up and just watch. Hero’s cousin Beatrice (a confirmed spinster) and Benedict (an eternal bachelor) are each duped into believing the other is in love with them. Claudio is deceived by a malicious plot and denounces Hero as unchaste before they marry. She faints and is believed dead\, but recovers to be proved innocent by a chance discovery. Plus enjoy Mickey Rooney as a most mischievous Puck\, the lovely Olivia DeHavilland as Hermia\, and Joe E. Brown as Flute. This is a fantasy romance as only old school Hollywood magic can create. \n \nBeth Accomando covers arts and culture around San Diego for KPBS News. She has been a film critic for more than 25 years and began at KPBS in 1987. Since 1997 she has been covering independent and international cinema as well as pop culture for National Public Radio and Public Radio International’s The World. She has received numerous Society of Professional Journalist Awards and San Diego Press Club Awards for her radio and web site work at KPBS. She has also received 11 southwestern area Emmy Awards in the categories of producing\, writing\, and sound design for promotional spots as well as national Pro Max and Telly Awards while working at Fox. She is a member of the Broadcast Film Critics Association and Online Film Critics Society\, and is the past President and former Education Chairperson for the San Diego Film Critics Society. She served as the festival director of Film School Confidential: A Showcase of San Diego Student Filmmaking. \n

Titus plans murder and cannibalism. This is not a happy play. \n—- \nA bit more about the play: The Roman general Titus Andronicus returns from war with four prisoners who vow to take revenge against him. They rape and mutilate Titus’ daughter and have his sons killed and banished. Titus kills two of them and cooks them into a pie\, which he serves to their mother before killing her too. DESCRIPTION:Vanguard is seeking 12-13 non-union actors to fill all roles in William Shakespeare’s Julius Caesar directed by Thomas Haine\, and running two weekends October 1-3\, and October 8-10\, 2021 starting at 6:00 pm in the outdoor amphitheater at Westminster Theatre 3598 Talbot Street\, Point Loma\, 92106 \nAuditions: July 25\, 2021 at 6:00 pm\, and July 26\, 2021 at 4:00 pm\nLocation: Westminster Theatre and Amphitheater\, 3598 Talbot Street\, Point Loma 92106 \nTo schedule an audition appointment\, email director tphaine@cox.net and include: \n1) Your name\n2) Your email & phone number\n3) Any Time restrictions during the auditions (you will be scheduled for a five-minute appointment)\n4) Digital copy of your headshot and resume. \nPlease prepare a 1-minute monologue. All who register will also receive a REPLAY. \nThe Shakespeare Prison Project (SPP) of Wisconsin\, founded in 2004\, facilitates the study\, rehearsal\, and performance of Shakespeare plays by incarcerated men inside Racine Correctional Institution\, a medium security prison. The project\, which has been celebrated by the Wisconsin Department of Corrections\, and in The New York Times\, focuses on the development of communication skills\, empathy\, self-awareness\, self-expression\, and the moral imagination. \nFounder and Director Jonathan Shailor will share a brief history of the project\, with evidence of its effectiveness\, and stories that highlight pivotal moments in the journeys of the participants. \n— \nThe public replay will be for a limited time. SD Shakespeare Society members will have unlimited access to this talk in their account. Join today! \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nJonathan Shailor is Professor of Communication and Director of the Certificate Program in Conflict Analysis and Resolution at the University of Wisconsin-Parkside\, where he has taught for 26 years. He has been a volunteer educator at Racine Correctional Institution (RCI) since 1994. In classrooms\, online\, and in the community\, Jonathan facilitates learning communities through “The Theatre of Empowerment\,” a process of personal and social development that involves critical reading\, creative writing\, dialogue\, storytelling\, and performance. His work has been recognized with both The Stella Gray Teaching Excellence Award and The Community-Engaged Learning and Research Award (UW-Parkside)\, and The Sister Joel Read Civic Engagement Practitioners Award (Wisconsin Campus Compact). Jonathan’s published research includes multiple articles\, book chapters\, and two books: Empowerment in Dispute Mediation: A Critical Analysis of Communication (1993)\, and Performing New Lives: Prison Theatre (2010). He is currently writing a book about The Shakespeare Prison Project.

The TIME of the event has been updated!\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nTL;DR: Tamora plans false incrimination\, rape\, murder\, and mutilation. Titus plans murder and cannibalism. This is not a happy play. \n—- \nA bit more about the play: The Roman general Titus Andronicus returns from war with four prisoners who vow to take revenge against him. They rape and mutilate Titus’ daughter and have his sons killed and banished. Titus kills two of them and cooks them into a pie\, which he serves to their mother before killing her too. The Roman emperor kills Titus\, and Titus’ last remaining son kills the emperor and takes his place. \nThere will be a ZOOM link to join the reading\, available on the Online Event page or in your “My Tickets” section. \n\n\nThis reading will be led by Bill Glaser\, who discovered Shakespeare at the age of twenty and has been a bardolater for more than sixty years. He taught Shakespeare at both the junior and senior high school levels for six years\, after which he continued teaching small groups and individuals informally. To stop Caesar from gaining too much power\, Brutus and the conspirators kill him on the Ides of March. Mark Antony drives the conspirators out of Rome and fights them in a battle. Prospero’s slave\, Caliban\, plots to rid himself of his master\, but is thwarted by Prospero’s spirit-servant Ariel. The King’s young son Ferdinand\, thought to be dead\, falls in love with Prospero’s daughter Miranda. Their celebrations are cut short when Prospero confronts his brother and reveals his identity as the usurped Duke of Milan. The families are reunited and all conflict is resolved. DESCRIPTION:Work on monologues with Dr. Rap\, professional dramaturg and host of the podcast “Appreciating Shakespeare”\n\n$20 for actors and $10 for audience \n\n\n\n\nAbout this Event\n\n\nGideon Rappaport is San Diego’s premiere Shakespearean dramaturge. He will work with actors on their Shakespearean sonnet or monologue concentrating on correct pronunciations\, interpretation\, speaking in iambic pentameter\, proper syllable stress\, and making your Shakespeare performance understandable\, accessible\, and dramatically exciting to an audience! \nExcellent preparation for presenting your Shakespeare piece at any audition. \n  \n15 Students will be guaranteed 10 minutes of Gideon’s attention and feedback. DESCRIPTION:Join us for a free Zoom lecture with Professor Alicia Andrzejewski!\n\n\n\n\n\nAbout this Event\n\n\nAfter registering\, check the “My Tickets” section in your account to locate the Zoom link. All who register will also receive a REPLAY. \nIn this talk\, Dr. Andrzejewski will bring together queer and feminist theory; performance studies; and archival research to address a conspicuous absence in queer readings of Shakespeare’s work: the pregnant body. \nWhile early modern scholars tend to read representations of pregnancy as commensurate with heterosexual sex\, desire\, and partnership\, Alicia focuses on one of Shakespeare’s early plays\, Titus Andronicus\, to argue that representations of pregnancy in Shakespeare’s canon still resist heteronormative structures that dictate what pregnancy should look like or how a pregnant person should act. \nTamora’s pregnant body is a “rude-growing briar\,” whispered about in the margins of the play before producing a child that directly challenges the “white-limed walls” of Rome. In short\, Shakespeare’s representations of quivering\, quickening\, and mixed-race children in Titus Andronicus continue to resist our own deep-seated ideologies about reproduction and\, consequently\, how we understand pregnancy\, gender\, conflict\, and definitions of life. \n— \nAlicia Andrzejewski is an Assistant Professor in William & Mary’s English department. She is a scholar of early modern literature and culture; queer\, feminist\, and critical race theory; and the medical humanities. Her work has appeared in Shakespeare Studies\, Shakespeare Bulletin\, and the online publication Synapsis. Her current book project\, Rude-Growing Briars: Queer Pregnancy in Shakespeare’s Plays\, argues for the transgressive force of pregnancy in his oeuvre and the expansive ways in which early modern people thought about the pregnant body. \n— \nThe public replay will be for a limited time. Everyone is married by a Greek god. \n—- \nA bit more about the play: Rosalind and her cousin escape into the forest and find Orlando\, Rosalind’s love. Disguised as a boy shepherd\, Rosalind has Orlando woo her under the guise of “curing” him of his love for Rosalind.
