Henry stops an assassination plot\, gives powerful speeches\, and wins battles against the odds. In the end\, he woos and marries the Princess of France\, linking the two nations. \nTom Haine has extensive directing credits which include Tartuffe\, Romeo and Juliet\, King Lear\, Hamlet\, Macbeth\, Hedda Gabler\, You Can’t Take It With You\, Bury the Dead\, Rumors\, Dearly Departed\, Nunsense and Julius Caesar. He has received formal training in directing from the Berkeley Rep and from Cambridge University in the UK. He has also trained with the Old Globe’s Jonathan McMurtry\, Dakin Matthews\, and Brendon Fox and with the San Diego Rep’s Todd Salovey and Sam Woodhouse. He is a graduate of the British American Drama Academy Mid-Summer Oxford Program (BADA) in 2010 and practices immigration and criminal law.

We suspect\, however\, that it will look like too much fun for you to resist for long. A lot of newcomers don’t want to read initially but when they see how fun it is\, they join in! But there is no pressure at all if you just want to watch and we have regular attendees who have never read. \nQ: Can I act as a specific character or be in a particular scene? \nA: That may be possible. Each evening has an assigned director who has planned what scenes to cover. If you are really anxious to act in a specific scene\, talk to the director at the start and see what can be arranged. DESCRIPTION:Reserve a spot and find the Zoom link in your “My Tickets” – RSVP on Eventbrite https://www.eventbrite.com/e/shakespeare-and-emilia-the-untold-story-virtual-presentation-tickets-471421052057  \nEmilia Bassano was identified as the Dark Musical Lady of the Shakespeare Sonnets by A.L.Rowse in 1973. This book presents previously unpublished evidence to prove that Rowse’s identification was correct. Emilia\, an early feminist poet and musician\, was the daughter of the youngest of six Venetian brothers\, all professional musicians\, brought to London by HenryVIII in 1540 to ensure a musical wedding for Anne of Cleves. \nLearn more about the book here. \nPeter Bassano\, the author and a descendent of Emilia’s uncle\, Anthony\, suggests that Shakespeare was the father of Emilia’s son\, Henry. Shortly after the child’s birth in May 1593 Shakespeare took a trip to Northern Italy with three of Emilia’s musician cousins travelling through towns well known to Shakespeare lovers as the setting of his early plays. The book does not agree with the views of John Hudson and Peter Matthews that Emilia wrote the Shakespeare canon. He believes that Shakespeare was Shakespeare but that Emilia was hugely influential on Shakespeare’s writing\, particularly in his outspoken heroines. \n\n\n\nPeter Bassano\nPeter is descended from a family of Venetian musicians brought to England by Henry Vlll. He studied trombone and singing at the Royal College of Music\, where until 2004 he was Professor of Trombone and Sackbut and Head of Brass. He has studied conducting with Sir John Eliot Gardiner\, Nikolaus Harnoncourt\, Elgar Howarth\, Sir Charles Mackerras\, Sir Roger Norrington\, Jorma Panula and Bramwell Tovey. Bassano has been Music Director of the Oxford University Sinfonietta\, The Virtuosi of the Mannheim Court\, The City of Rochester Symphony Orchestra\, the professional choir\, The Gentlemen of the Chappell\, The Equale Baroque Players\, Wendover Choral Society\, City of Cambridge Brass Band and Oxford Touring Opera. He is the author of two books\, Shakespeare and Emilia (2020) and Before the Music Stopped (2021).

Encouraged by his wife\, Macbeth kills the king\, becomes the new king\, and kills more people out of paranoia. He has received formal training in directing from the Berkeley Rep and from Cambridge University in the UK. He has also trained with the Old Globe’s Jonathan McMurtry\, Dakin Matthews\, and Brendon Fox and with the San Diego Rep’s Todd Salovey and Sam Woodhouse. He is a graduate of the British American Drama Academy Mid-Summer Oxford Program (BADA) in 2010 and practices immigration and criminal law. \n\n\nFAQ \nQ: Do I have to read? \nA: You are welcome to show up and just watch. We suspect\, however\, that it will look like too much fun for you to resist for long. A lot of newcomers don’t want to read initially but when they see how fun it is\, they join in! But there is no pressure at all if you just want to watch and we have regular attendees who have never read. \nQ: Can I act as a specific character or be in a particular scene? \nA: That may be possible. Each evening has an assigned director who has planned what scenes to cover. If you are really anxious to act in a specific scene\, talk to the director at the start and see what can be arranged. No guarantees\, but if the scene is being done that night\, it might be possible. All scenes are cast that night right before they are read\, so usually\, everyone who wants to act has the chance to do at least a small role. \nQ: Who can participate? \nA: Everyone! They are free and open to the public.
