SUMMARY:Romeo and Juliet (Part Two) ONLINE Reading - North County series
DESCRIPTION:Join us for a fun night of reading the play with our leader Doug Smith – part of our North County-led events!\n\n\n\n\n\nAbout this event\n\n\nThere will be a ZOOM link to join the reading\, available on the Online Event page or in your “My Tickets” section. \n\nRegister on Eventbrite at: https://www.eventbrite.com/e/189236681007  to receive the zoom link. \n\nTL;DR: The classic story of boy meets girl; girl’s family hates boy’s family; boy’s family hates girl’s family; boy kills girl’s cousin; boy and girl kill themselves. \n—- \nA bit more about the play: An age-old vendetta between two powerful families erupts into bloodshed. A group of masked Montagues risk further conflict by gatecrashing a Capulet party. A young lovesick Romeo Montague falls instantly in love with Juliet Capulet\, who is due to marry her father’s choice\, the County Paris. With the help of Juliet’s nurse\, the women arrange for the couple to marry the next day\, but Romeo’s attempt to halt a street fight leads to the death of Juliet’s own cousin\, Tybalt\, for which Romeo is banished. In a desperate attempt to be reunited with Romeo\, Juliet follows the Friar’s plot and fakes her own death. The message fails to reach Romeo\, and believing Juliet dead\, he takes his life in her tomb. Juliet wakes to find Romeo’s corpse beside her and kills herself. The grieving family agree to end their feud. \n—- \nFAQ \nQ: Do I have to read? \nA: You are welcome to show up and just watch. We suspect\, however\, that it will look like too much fun for you to resist for long. A lot of newcomers don’t want to read initially but when they see how fun it is\, they join in! But there is no pressure at all if you just want to watch and we have regular attendees who have never read. \nQ: Can I act as a specific character or be in a particular scene? \nA: That may be possible. Each evening has an assigned director who has planned what scenes to cover. If you are really anxious to act in a specific scene\, talk to the director at the start and see what can be arranged. No guarantees\, but if the scene is being done that night\, it might be possible. All scenes are cast that night right before they are read\, so usually\, everyone who wants to act has the chance to do at least a small role. \nQ: Who can participate? \nA: Everyone! They are free and open to the public. \n—- \nHilarious TL;DR [“too long\, didn’t read”] notes and summaries from the Shakespeare Birthplace Trust. Photo Credits: The Old Globe

She is a former associate general editor of The Shakespeare Standard. Photo Credits: Shakespeare in the park.

SUMMARY:As You Like It (Part Two) – led by Patrick McBride
DESCRIPTION:Register on EventBrite: https://www.eventbrite.com/e/as-you-like-it-part-two-free-and-online-shakespeare-reading-tickets-133608084377\n\n\nJoin us for a fun night of reading the play with our leader Patrick McBride!\n\n\n\n\n\nAbout this Event\n\n\nTL;DR: All brothers hate each other for some reason. Rosalind dresses up as a boy and convinces her crush to hit on her while she’s a boy. Everyone is married by a Greek god. \n—- \nA bit more about the play: Rosalind and her cousin escape into the forest and find Orlando\, Rosalind’s love. Disguised as a boy shepherd\, Rosalind has Orlando woo her under the guise of “curing” him of his love for Rosalind. Rosalind reveals she is a girl and marries Orlando during a group wedding at the end of the play. \nThere will be a ZOOM link to join the reading\, available on the Online Event page or in your “My Tickets” section. \n\n\n\nPatrick McBride has worked as a professional actor at numerous Shakespeare festivals and theatres around the country\, the last two years touring with Intrepid in their Shakespeare education tour\, and playing the fool for the San Diego Shakespeare Society’s stage reading of King Lear. He has taught Shakespeare classes for kids and adults at the Old Globe\, the Shakespeare theater in Washington DC\, Intrepid\, and for Luminary Arts. \n“My passion for Shakespeare focuses on how to play it and how to say it. When I direct one of his plays I assert that Shakespeare is directing from the grave\, we simply need to find and follow the clues in the text that enable us to unlock how to best bring it to life on the stage. I will therefore discuss the language\, the characters\, the plot\, the staging\, the spectacle and the theme of As You Like It as if those participating in the open reading were the cast of the play and we were attempting our first read through.” – Patrick McBride \n—- \nFAQ \nQ: Do I have to read? \nA: You are welcome to show up and just watch. We suspect\, however\, that it will look like too much fun for you to resist for long. A lot of newcomers don’t want to read initially but when they see how fun it is\, they join in! SUMMARY:As You Like It (Part One) – led by Patrick McBride
DESCRIPTION:Register on EventBrite: https://www.eventbrite.com/e/as-you-like-it-part-one-free-and-online-shakespeare-reading-tickets-133513300877 \n\nJoin us for a fun night of reading the play with our leader Patrick McBride!\n\n\n\n\n\nAbout this Event\n\n\nTL;DR: All brothers hate each other for some reason. SUMMARY:Online Open Reading
DESCRIPTION:Join us for our very FIRST virtual reading—and you’re invited\, wherever you are! \nClick HERE on April 7th at 5:30 pm to join our Zoom reading! \nThe open readings began in 2011\, and every month\, we’ve met in-person to read the works of Shakespeare! We’ve had several meeting spots over the years\, and most recently\, we’ve been at the Coronado Public Library and the Barnes and Noble in Escondido. \nAs we all continue to “shelter-in-place”\, we are transitioning our events in light of the physical distancing that’s taking place—and so\, we bring you another virtual experiment—in collaboration with the Coronado Public Library—and hope that you’ll attend! \nLed by Society Board member Nathan Agin\, we’ll read comedic scenes from Shakespeare’s works\, including selections from Much Ado About Nothing\, The Taming of the Shrew\, Twelfth Night\, Love’s Labour’s Lost\, and more! \nYou can attend to read\, or just listen! \n(You’ll need to have Zoom installed on your phone or computer.)
