SUMMARY:Macbeth (Part Two) IN PERSON Reading - Central County
DESCRIPTION:Join us for a fun night of reading the play with our leader Tom Haine – part of our Central County-led events!\n\n\n\n\n\nAbout this event\n\n\nRegister on Eventbrite at https://www.eventbrite.com/e/macbeth-part-two-online-reading-central-county-tickets-228671742337 \nTL;DR: (may contain spoilers): Macbeth hears that he is going to be king; he and Lady Macbeth kill people so he can become king; both of them die. \n—- \nA bit more about the play: Three witches tell the Scottish general Macbeth that he will be King of Scotland. Encouraged by his wife\, Macbeth kills the king\, becomes the new king\, and kills more people out of paranoia. Civil war erupts to overthrow Macbeth\, resulting in more death. \n—- \nHilarious TL;DR [“too long\, didn’t read”] notes and summaries from the Shakespeare Birthplace Trust. Photo Credits: The Old Globe \n\n\n\nTom Haine has extensive directing credits which include Tartuffe\, Romeo and Juliet\, King Lear\, Hamlet\, Macbeth\, Hedda Gabler\, You Can’t Take It With You\, Bury the Dead\, Rumors\, Dearly Departed\, Nunsense and Julius Caesar. He has received formal training in directing from the Berkeley Rep and from Cambridge University in the UK. He has also trained with the Old Globe’s Jonathan McMurtry\, Dakin Matthews\, and Brendon Fox and with the San Diego Rep’s Todd Salovey and Sam Woodhouse. He is a graduate of the British American Drama Academy Mid-Summer Oxford Program (BADA) in 2010 and practices immigration and criminal law. \n\n\nFAQ \nQ: Do I have to read? \nA: You are welcome to show up and just watch. We suspect\, however\, that it will look like too much fun for you to resist for long. A lot of newcomers don’t want to read initially but when they see how fun it is\, they join in! But there is no pressure at all if you just want to watch and we have regular attendees who have never read. \nQ: Can I act as a specific character or be in a particular scene? \nA: That may be possible. Each evening has an assigned director who has planned what scenes to cover. If you are really anxious to act in a specific scene\, talk to the director at the start and see what can be arranged. No guarantees\, but if the scene is being done that night\, it might be possible. All scenes are cast that night right before they are read\, so usually\, everyone who wants to act has the chance to do at least a small role. \nQ: Who can participate? \nA: Everyone! They are free and open to the public.

SUMMARY:Henry IV Part 2\, (Part One) ONLINE Reading - Central County
DESCRIPTION:Join us for a fun night of reading the play with our leader Kim Keeline – part of our Central County-led events!\n\n\n\n\n\nAbout this event\n\n\nThere will be a ZOOM link to join the reading\, available on the Online Event page or in your “My Tickets” section. Register on Eventbrite https://www.eventbrite.com/e/henry-iv-part-2-part-one-online-reading-central-county-tickets-228666927937 \nTL;DR: (may contain spoilers): King Henry IV fights off a growing rebellion while his son drinks and robs people; his son redeems himself. King Henry IV is dying; Falstaff is … Falstaff-ing; Prince John is unethical; and Hal becomes King. \n—- \nA bit more about the play: King Henry IV suffers from illness\, so his youngest son Prince John fights the rebels\, while Prince Hal prepares to be king. Meanwhile\, Hal’s friend Falstaff causes trouble\, recruits\, and speaks ill of Hal. Henry dies\, and Hal becomes King Henry V. He banishes Falstaff from court\, ready to wage war on France. \n—- \nHilarious TL;DR [“too long\, didn’t read”] notes and summaries from the Shakespeare Birthplace Trust. Photo Credits: The Old Globe \n\n\n\nKim Keeline is a writer and teacher who fell in love with Shakespeare when she was 12 and her parents took her to a production of Twelfth Night at the Old Globe. She eventually earned her Ph.D. in English Literature\, specializing in Shakespeare and his time period. She gives lectures on the history and literature she loves through various groups and otherwise keeps busy. See more about her at kimkeeline.com \n\n\nFAQ \nQ: Do I have to read?

SUMMARY:Shakespeare Authorship Forum - IN-PERSON @ Coronado Library and via ZOOM
DESCRIPTION:Join us as we dive into both sides of this fierce debate\, including an appearance by Cheryl Eagan-Donovan\, acclaimed documentary filmmaker.\n\n\n\n\n\nAbout this event\n\n\nJoin us IN-PERSON at the Coronado Public Library or via ZOOM\nRSVP on Eventbrite to receive the zoom link. \n \nFor hundreds of years\, doubts have been raised as to whether William Shakespeare of Stratford-upon-Avon\, a man of limited education and experience\, actually wrote the plays poems\, and sonnets credited to him. Walt Whitman\, Mark Twain\, Sigmund Freud\, Henry James\, Orson Welles\, and Malcom X\, to name a few\, have expressed such doubts. \nAt the forum\, we will introduce the question for the general audience by showing 20 minutes of a documentary\, “Last Will. & Testament\,” which provides viewpoints of both so-called “Orthodox” scholars and doubters. An informal discussion will follow\, moderated by Gordon Gidlund\, past President of the Society\, with the intent of more fully airing the controversy. Local notables representing both sides will contribute to the discussion. \nThe forum will also include a Zoom appearance by Cheryl Eagan-Donovan\, an acclaimed documentary filmmaker\, who will argue in favor of a leading author candidate\, Edward de Vere\, Earl of Oxford\, a highly educated nobleman in the court of Queen Elizabeth\, who traveled extensively in Italy where so many of the plays take place. \nCoronado Public Library: 640 Orange Ave\, Coronado\, CA 92118 \nZoom: a link will be available on the “Online Event” page for those who register for that ticket type

Register on Eventbrite to access the link https://www.eventbrite.com/e/loves-labors-lost-part-one-online-reading-north-county-tickets-229667540797  \nTL;DR: (may contain spoilers): Four men forswear women right before four women arrive to meet them; the men change their minds. \n—- \nA bit more about the play: After vowing to avoid women\, the King and three of his friends have to host a princess and her three ladies. The four men fall in love and decide to court the women. In the end\, the women must return to their kingdom for a year after which they will marry the king and his friends\, providing they remain true to them. \n—- \nHilarious TL;DR [“too long\, didn’t read”] notes and summaries from the Shakespeare Birthplace Trust. Photo Credits: The Old Globe \n\n\nFAQ \nQ: Do I have to read?
