SUMMARY:Henry VIII\, (Part Two) Reading - Central County
DESCRIPTION:Join us for a fun night of reading the play with our leader Charlie Riendeau – part of our Central County-led events!\n\n\n\n\n\nAbout this event\n\n\nTL;DR: (may contain spoilers): Cardinal Wolsey is shifty; Henry divorces Katherine and marries Anne; Queen Elizabeth is the most extraordinary being ever to be born\, praise her \n—- \nA bit more about the play: King Henry VIII listens to Cardinal Wolsey too much and gives him power\, which the Cardinal uses to convict a duke of treason. Henry meets Anne Boleyn\, divorces his wife Katharine\, and marries Anne. Anne gives birth to Princess Elizabeth who the Archbishop prophesies will become great. \n—- \nHilarious TL;DR [“too long\, didn’t read”] notes and summaries from the Shakespeare Birthplace Trust. Photo Credits: The Old Globe \n\n\n\nCharlie Riendeau has participated in three Old Globe Shakespeare Festivals\, several years of their winter seasons\, and the first two Old Globe Educational Tours. He has acted in over 100 full productions\, directed 25\, and has participated in numerous readings for various theaters around the county. He has performed in London and New York and holds a degree in Theatre from SDSU. \n\n\nFAQ \nQ: Do I have to read? \nA: You are welcome to show up and just watch. We suspect\, however\, that it will look like too much fun for you to resist for long. A lot of newcomers don’t want to read initially but when they see how fun it is\, they join in! But there is no pressure at all if you just want to watch and we have regular attendees who have never read. \nQ: Can I act as a specific character or be in a particular scene? \nA: That may be possible. Each evening has an assigned director who has planned what scenes to cover. If you are really anxious to act in a specific scene\, talk to the director at the start and see what can be arranged. No guarantees\, but if the scene is being done that night\, it might be possible. All scenes are cast that night right before they are read\, so usually\, everyone who wants to act has the chance to do at least a small role. \nQ: Who can participate? \nA: Everyone! They are free and open to the public.

SUMMARY:Shakespeare and Emilia: The Untold Story - VIRTUAL presentation
DESCRIPTION:Reserve a spot and find the Zoom link in your “My Tickets” – RSVP on Eventbrite https://www.eventbrite.com/e/shakespeare-and-emilia-the-untold-story-virtual-presentation-tickets-471421052057  \nEmilia Bassano was identified as the Dark Musical Lady of the Shakespeare Sonnets by A.L.Rowse in 1973. This book presents previously unpublished evidence to prove that Rowse’s identification was correct. Emilia\, an early feminist poet and musician\, was the daughter of the youngest of six Venetian brothers\, all professional musicians\, brought to London by HenryVIII in 1540 to ensure a musical wedding for Anne of Cleves. \nLearn more about the book here. \nPeter Bassano\, the author and a descendent of Emilia’s uncle\, Anthony\, suggests that Shakespeare was the father of Emilia’s son\, Henry. Shortly after the child’s birth in May 1593 Shakespeare took a trip to Northern Italy with three of Emilia’s musician cousins travelling through towns well known to Shakespeare lovers as the setting of his early plays. The book does not agree with the views of John Hudson and Peter Matthews that Emilia wrote the Shakespeare canon. He believes that Shakespeare was Shakespeare but that Emilia was hugely influential on Shakespeare’s writing\, particularly in his outspoken heroines. \n\n\n\nPeter Bassano\nPeter is descended from a family of Venetian musicians brought to England by Henry Vlll. He studied trombone and singing at the Royal College of Music\, where until 2004 he was Professor of Trombone and Sackbut and Head of Brass. He has studied conducting with Sir John Eliot Gardiner\, Nikolaus Harnoncourt\, Elgar Howarth\, Sir Charles Mackerras\, Sir Roger Norrington\, Jorma Panula and Bramwell Tovey. Bassano has been Music Director of the Oxford University Sinfonietta\, The Virtuosi of the Mannheim Court\, The City of Rochester Symphony Orchestra\, the professional choir\, The Gentlemen of the Chappell\, The Equale Baroque Players\, Wendover Choral Society\, City of Cambridge Brass Band and Oxford Touring Opera. He is the author of two books\, Shakespeare and Emilia (2020) and Before the Music Stopped (2021).

He has also trained with the Old Globe’s Jonathan McMurtry\, Dakin Matthews\, and Brendon Fox and with the San Diego Rep’s Todd Salovey and Sam Woodhouse. He is a graduate of the British American Drama Academy Mid-Summer Oxford Program (BADA) in 2010 and practices immigration and criminal law.

SUMMARY:Shakespeare Authorship Forum - IN-PERSON @ Coronado Library and via ZOOM
DESCRIPTION:Join us as we dive into both sides of this fierce debate\, including an appearance by Cheryl Eagan-Donovan\, acclaimed documentary filmmaker.\n\n\n\n\n\nAbout this event\n\n\nJoin us IN-PERSON at the Coronado Public Library or via ZOOM\nRSVP on Eventbrite to receive the zoom link. \n \nFor hundreds of years\, doubts have been raised as to whether William Shakespeare of Stratford-upon-Avon\, a man of limited education and experience\, actually wrote the plays poems\, and sonnets credited to him. Walt Whitman\, Mark Twain\, Sigmund Freud\, Henry James\, Orson Welles\, and Malcom X\, to name a few\, have expressed such doubts. \nAt the forum\, we will introduce the question for the general audience by showing 20 minutes of a documentary\, “Last Will. & Testament\,” which provides viewpoints of both so-called “Orthodox” scholars and doubters. An informal discussion will follow\, moderated by Gordon Gidlund\, past President of the Society\, with the intent of more fully airing the controversy. Local notables representing both sides will contribute to the discussion. \nThe forum will also include a Zoom appearance by Cheryl Eagan-Donovan\, an acclaimed documentary filmmaker\, who will argue in favor of a leading author candidate\, Edward de Vere\, Earl of Oxford\, a highly educated nobleman in the court of Queen Elizabeth\, who traveled extensively in Italy where so many of the plays take place. \nCoronado Public Library: 640 Orange Ave\, Coronado\, CA 92118 \nZoom: a link will be available on the “Online Event” page for those who register for that ticket type

Bertram rejects her and leaves a list of tasks that she must do to have him acknowledge their marriage. She follows him to Italy\, completes all the tasks\, and Bertram accepts her as his wife. \n—- \nHilarious TL;DR [“too long\, didn’t read”] notes and summaries from the Shakespeare Birthplace Trust. Photo Credits: The Old Globe \n\n\n\n\n\nLalitte Stolper has a degree in English Literature from Oxford University\, and studied Shakespeare and Renaissance drama as part of that degree. As a student\, she played Olivia in Twelfth Night and Calpurnia in Julius Caesar. She worked in theatre for two years as a director\, including a shortened version of Measure for Measure in a pub in Fulham\, London. She was also a sculptor and installation artist\, working largely in the public sectors in France and England\, throughout 90s and 2000s. One project was in a small town in central France\, where she interviewed and photographed expectant mothers to create a contemporary matriarchal version of the town museum’s medieval stone-carved relief of the Arbre de Jessé; her version was in paper relief\, photographs and text.
