KING LEAR OPEN READING (Part Two)

Tuesday, February 5, 2019, at 6:45 PM

The Veterans Museum at Balboa Park
Lower Level Meeting Room
2115 Park Boulevard (at President’s Way) San Diego, CA 92101

FREE PARKING IN ADJACENT LOT.

We start off our 2019 monthly reading program for Jan/Feb with the big one, King Lear!

The Play

The King of England is nearing the end of his reign. He hobbles to his desk where he announces he is to devolve the power of his kingdom, dividing the land and dishing it out to his three daughters, once they proclaim their love for him. But when King Lear’s plans are impeded by the greed of others, he slowly descends into a deep, all-encompassing madness as his country teeters on the edge.

The Director

Acclaimed director Thomas Haine guides this reading. Mr. Haine directed a very successful production of Macbeth earlier this year at the 10th Avenue Playhouse in downtown San Diego. Other credits include Hamlet at the Coronado Playhouse, Tartuffe, Hedda Gabler, You Can’t Take it With You, Bury the Dead, Rumors, and Dearly Departed. He has received formal training in directing from the Berkeley Rep and Cambridge University in England. Mr. Haine is a 2010 graduate of the British American Drama Academy, Oxford University.

The Plan

You’re invited! All ages welcome. Free. We recast after every scene so all who want to get a chance to read. If you’d like to just listen that’s OK too. Please bring a copy of the play if possible. We MAY have a couple of extra copies. We look forward to seeing you there! The benefit to you when you read Shakespeare out loud is that you sharpen your cold reading skills whether you’re an actor or someone who just enjoys speaking and hearing the wonderful poetry and graceful language.
